Over 200 participants attended the Embassy’s Young Writers Open Mic Night on Saturday, November 11th at Katara in celebration of Doha Learning Week and the Discover America Festival. The event was held in partnership with the World Innovation Summit for Education (WISE) and the Ministry of Education and Higher Education. During the event, participants enjoyed an evening of poetry, music and spoken word performance by students and the wider community. Five performers took home the evening’s top prize of a ‘golden mic’ for their outstanding performances.
The event was inspired by the U.S. Embassy Doha’s Young Writers Program, which reaches over 120 Ministry schools annually through workshops and the nation-wise Young Writers Competition. The purpose of the program is to encourage Qatar’s youth to read, write and think critically about important topics in society while practicing their English language and critical thinking skills.
