Learn, exchange, grow, and serve. The U.S. Department of State offers many programs for non-U.S. citizens wishing to come to the U.S. for cultural, educational, or professional exchange. These programs are augmented by local opportunities in countries around that world that allow non-U.S. citizens to explore U.S. culture and the English language.
The United States supports international education and welcomes foreign students and exchange visitors. Before applying for a visa, students and exchange visitors must be accepted by their schools or program sponsors.
American English is a resource center for teaching and learning about American English.
The U.S. Department of State’s Office of U.S. Speaker Programs in the Bureau of International Information Programs recruits dynamic American experts to engage international audiences on topics of importance to both the United States and Qatar. Programs like presentations, workshops, panel discussions etc. are conducted in person and through virtual engagement platforms. U.S. Embassy Doha works with local partners to identify opportunities for engagement.
The International Visitor Leadership Program (IVLP) is the U.S. Department of State’s premier professional exchange program. Through short-term visits to the United States, current and emerging foreign leaders from a variety of fields experience American culture firsthand and cultivate lasting relationships with their American counterparts. Professional meetings reflect the participants’ professional interests and support stronger bilateral relations between the United States and the participant’s home country.
The Fulbright Program is the flagship international educational exchange program sponsored by the U.S. government and is designed to increase mutual understanding between the people of the United States and the people of other countries. It is broken down into three programs: the Fulbright Visiting Scholar Program; the Fulbright Specialist Program; and the U.S. Fulbright Scholars Program.
As part of our overall mission to strengthen the relationship between the United States and Qatar, U.S. Embassy Doha offers a number of programs to assist and support students, teachers and administrators of English as a Second Language (ESL).
