Ambassador Linda Thomas-Greenfield, U.S. Representative to the United Nations, met today with Qatari Foreign Minister Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman bin Jassim Al Thani. Ambassador Thomas-Greenfield expressed appreciation to Foreign Minister Al Thani for Qatar’s vital leadership in helping to facilitate the release of hostages from Hamas and other groups, as well as a humanitarian pause to get humanitarian aid into Gaza.
The Ambassador further underscored the United States’ support for efforts toward extending the pause, so that more hostages can be reunited with their loved ones and to allow for additional aid to enter Gaza.
Ambassador Thomas-Greenfield reaffirmed the importance of the strategic partnership between the United States and Qatar and welcomed continued close consultation with Qatar on setting the conditions for a durable and sustainable peace in the Middle East, to include the establishment of a Palestinian state.
