The U.S. Embassy hosted a team of three American experts in the field of Science Education. They conducted a weeklong workshop entitled, “Spectacular Science” from November 23-27, 2014. The experts were International Educational Consultant ,Dr. Barbara Hong, Professor of Physics at Penn State, and Alice Flarend; a Physics school teacher with over 15 years of experience. The teachers conducted demonstrations, using everyday materials, to explain the principles of science. The audience were also able to conduct experiments of their own with various materials at forty different workstations. The Spectacular Science workshop touched more than five hundred individuals, the majority of them school children and showed them how easily one can comprehend the underlying principles of science using a bit of innovation and common materials. In the end, the activities helped dispel the frequent myth that it is hard to learn science. On the contrary, the workshop proved that science can be easy and fun!
