U.S. Embassy Promotes U.S. Real Estate and Investment Encourages Attendance in the U.S. Department of Commerce’s June 2016 SelectUSA Summit

DOHA: The U.S. Embassy hosted an event on April 19, 2016 promoting U.S. real estate investment in collaboration with Jones Lang LaSalle (JLL), a financial and professional services firm, 58,000 people strong across 230 corporate offices specializing in real estate services and investment management.  JLL executives discussed the U.S. real estate market and its growth opportunities as well as tax considerations when making individual purchases.

U.S. Ambassador to the State of Qatar, Dana Shell Smith, noted that, “Our bilateral relationship with Qatar is growing by the day. U.S. real estate and other investment possibilities are endless.  There are so many reasons why the United States is the right place for investors. The country offers an excellent workforce, a stable political and regulatory environment and high returns; for this reason we continue to see significant interest from Qatari and other local investors and anticipate this will only increase.”

JLL’s International Director for Capital Markets, Tom Kirschbraun, commented that, “America’s economic expansion is in its seventh year and, as long as employment growth continues at its current pace, we expect the expansion to continue into 2018.  Regardless of broader trends in economic growth and capital markets, it is important for investors to understand that market dynamics vary significantly among the major cities:  The situation in New York is different from Chicago which is different from Houston and Los Angeles and so forth,” International Director for JLL – Capital Markets.

Throughout the April 19th event, Qatari and other local businessmen also learned more about the U.S. government’s investment program, Select USA and the June 20-21 Investment Summit where President Barack Obama will deliver the keynote address.

The SelectUSA Summit promotes foreign direct investment (FDI) in the United States. Approximately 12 million jobs across the country can be attributed to FDI, which also drives U.S. exports and contributes to innovation. The Summit will bring together companies of all sizes that are considering expanding or establishing operations in the United States to meet with economic development organizations from every corner of the country to explore investment opportunities.

A number of global business leaders have already confirmed their attendance as participants and speakers at the Summit. They represent major international companies such as Xerox, Indiegogo, Rassini, L’Oréal, ABB Group, IKEA, Wanxiang, TOTO, and many others.
