The Public Affairs Section at Embassy Doha hosted the 3rd Annual Young Writers Competition awards ceremony on Wednesday, April 19th at VCU-Q Atrium, in collaboration with the Ministry of Education and Higher Education (MEHE) and with support from VCU-Q. Like last year, we honored 15 students – grades 5, 8, and 10. Students and teachers from the 114 schools that took part in this year’s competition attended this year’s ceremony as well as officials from MEHE, representatives from other offices in Qatar Foundation, and a number of faculty from VCU-Q at the ceremony, including Dean Kahera, who gave opening remarks at the event. The aim of the competition is to encourage students to read, write and think critically about important topics, while practicing and improving their English writing skills. Ambassador Dana Shell Smith said “Shaping our World for the Better” – speaks directly to the importance of education in shaping our world, and particularly our youth, for the better” while handing out the awards to the students.
